Pamela Whitten, who earned a master’s in communication from UK in 1986, is making history as the first female president of Indiana University. Though she never dreamed of having this title since female presidents weren’t common when she was growing up, she’s glad to be in a position to make a difference.
On Feb. 25, Ad Club Lexington hosted its annual American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising. At the awards ceremony, 20 University of Kentucky integrated strategic communication students won a total of eight awards.

In fall of 2021, the Bluegrass Debate Coalition, which is part of the University of Kentucky’s championship intercollegiate debate team in the College of Communication and Information, hosted a guest lecture series featuring speakers from several colleges and schools across UK’s campus.
The Kentucky Intercollegiate Debate team of sophomores David Griffith and Jordan Di has received a “first-round bid” or automatic invitation to the 2022 National Debate Tournament (NDT). Only the top 16 teams in the nation, as ranked by the National Debate Committee, receive this designation.
Among the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, seven of the international students who joined the Wildcat community in Fall 2021 did so through a special program. The students, from China, India, Peru, Nicaragua, Brazil and Egypt, had one thing in common — beginning their university studies from home. This was made possible by the Global Wildcats program, UK’s special online program designed to give international students the opportunity to begin their studies despite travel restrictions
The 31st annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards ceremony honored multiple College of Communication and Information honorees. Recent baccalaureate graduates Camille Wright and Sabriel Metcalf each received a Torch Bearer award, alumna Yalonda Green received a Torch of Excellence and postdoctoral researcher Aurora Santiago-Ortiz received the Postdoctoral Fellowship.
In an aim to help bridge the gap between Kentucky high school instruction and college readiness, two School of Information Science faculty members are lending their expertise to the University of Kentucky Next Generation Dual Credit Network.
Six University of Kentucky educators have been named 2022 Great Teachers by the UK Alumni Association.
